Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Escape or loss due to loose or broken latches, or an improperly sized kennel or cage.
  • Trapping of paws, head or collar between bars, mesh, latches or hinges.
  • Cuts or injuries from sharp edges, loose wires, splinters, rust or protruding parts.
  • Toppling, falling or collapse of the structure due to improper installation, impacts or overloading.
  • Heatstroke, hypothermia or inadequate ventilation in enclosed spaces.
  • Risk of fire or burns if placed near stoves, radiators, heat lamps or cables.
  • Stress, anxiety or escape-seeking behaviour due to prolonged confinement.
  • Ingestion of small parts, flaking paint or residues of cleaning products not properly rinsed off.
  • Injuries to the handler from bites or scratches during the animal's entry or exit.
  • Access by predators or rodents outdoors if there are gaps, damaged mesh or inadequate anchoring.
  • Falls from height if the cage is hung or stacked insecurely.

Safe use

  • Choose a size that allows the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably.
  • Check that the bar spacing and openings prevent the head or limbs from protruding.
  • Check latches, hinges and joints daily; close and secure properly before leaving the animal inside.
  • Place the kennel or cage on a level, stable surface; outdoors, anchor it if there is a risk of tipping.
  • Position in a ventilated area, with shade in summer and shelter in winter; avoid prolonged direct sunlight and cold draughts.
  • Keep a distance from heat sources, flames, cables and sockets; do not rest lamps directly on the cage.
  • Provide fresh water and a dry bedding or substrate; secure food and water containers to prevent spills and tipping.
  • Introduce the animal gradually, with short, supervised sessions until it becomes accustomed to the space.
  • Remove collars, harnesses or leads that could snag on bars or fastenings while it is inside.
  • Do not stack cages or hang them from weak supports; if suspended, check the strength of the anchor point.
  • Check for and remove sharp edges, splinters or rust; replace damaged parts with compatible ones.
  • Outdoors, check for gaps and mesh; avoid waterlogged ground and provide shelter from rain and wind.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with mild products and rinse thoroughly; do not mix cleaners or leave residues accessible to the animal.
  • Remove food remains and dirt daily; change the bedding as often as necessary to prevent damp and odours.
  • Dry completely after cleaning to prevent mould and corrosion.
  • Regularly inspect screws, welds, wood, fastenings and trays; tighten, sand or replace anything that is deteriorated.
  • Lubricate hinges and latches when necessary, allowing the lubricant to dry before use.
  • Replace worn components (fastenings, grilles, seals, trays) with compatible spares.
  • Store the kennel or cage in a dry, ventilated place, protected from the sun and the elements when not in use.
  • Avoid paints or varnishes not suitable for animals on accessible surfaces; ensure they are completely dry before reintroducing the animal.
  • Air the space well after cleaning before the animal re-enters.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the cage or kennel as a carrier in vehicles unless using a model designed for this purpose and correctly secured.
  • It is not a play area for children, and they must not climb inside.
  • Do not leave the animal confined without supervision for prolonged periods in conditions of heat, extreme cold or storms.
  • Do not house incompatible animals or animals of different species in the same space without secure partitions.
  • Do not place the structure on balconies, ledges or high places where there is a risk of falling.
  • Do not modify the structure (cutting bars, enlarging openings, adding weights) if it could compromise its stability or safety.
  • Do not use electrical accessories inside or on the cage/kennel without proper protection and supervision.
  • Do not block corridors, doors or emergency exits with bulky kennels or cages.
  • For convalescent animals, follow the vet's guidance on confinement times and activity.
  • Do not use the cage or kennel with animals that could deform or break it; choose a model appropriate to the animal's size and temperament.
