Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Trips and falls due to misaligned, loose or protruding gratings.
- Cuts or pinching injuries when handling gratings, sharp edges or damaged parts.
- Entrapment of footwear, wheels or fingers in unsuitable openings or open gratings.
- Breakage due to overloading if heavier vehicles than intended pass over, with a risk of collapse.
- Strain injuries when lifting heavy covers or gratings without the proper tool.
- Blockages causing overflows and local flooding.
- Standing water that encourages bad odours, algae, mosquitoes and slippery surfaces.
- Damage to buried services (cables, pipes) during excavation or installation.
- Frost and ice that can crack parts and make the area slippery.
Safe use
- Before digging, check for the possible presence of pipes and cables using plans or detectors.
- Wear sturdy gloves and eye protection when cutting, installing, opening or cleaning.
- Install the channels on a firm, level base; leave the gratings flush with the paving.
- Secure the gratings with their fixings; do not leave unprotected openings or poorly seated covers.
- Select the product according to the intended use (pedestrian, bicycle, light vehicle traffic); do not drive over or load it if it is not designed for that.
- Periodically remove leaves, mud and sediment; use the appropriate tool to lift the grating, never your fingers.
- Avoid pouring grease, paints, cement, solvents or wipes that could block or damage the materials.
- When cleaning with a pressure washer, keep a safe distance so as not to damage joints or coatings.
- After heavy rain, check that water drains correctly and that there are no displacements or settlement.
Storage and maintenance
- Store components in a dry, ventilated place protected from direct sunlight and frost, especially plastic parts and seals.
- Avoid impacts and twisting; stack flat without placing excessive weight on gratings or channels.
- Keep screws, clips and accessories together and labelled to prevent loss.
- Inspect after storms or heavy use: check the integrity of frames, fixings and gratings; replace cracked, deformed or corroded parts.
- Clean channels with water and a soft brush; avoid aggressive chemicals that could damage plastics, rubbers or galvanised finishes.
- Periodically check joints and seals; renew deteriorated seals to prevent leaks into the ground.
- If the system includes a trap or odour seal, maintain the water level to reduce odours and the ingress of pests.
- In winter, remove ice without sharp tools; the use of salts may accelerate corrosion of metal components.
- Compact and level the surroundings if settlement occurs to avoid protruding edges.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use gullies and channels to discharge high-temperature liquids, oils, fuels, solvents, acids or alkalis.
- Do not use gratings as a step, support, anchorage point or working platform.
- Do not modify, cut or drill parts in a way that affects their strength or fit; use only compatible accessories.
- Do not install in areas of heavy traffic or machinery if the product is not intended for that load.
- Do not cover gratings with soil, mats or other materials that prevent water entry.
- Do not use improvised tools to lift heavy covers; use suitable lifting keys or hooks.
- Keep children and pets away during installation, cleaning or when gratings are open.
- Installations on steep slopes, in vehicle traffic areas or next to buried service connections may require qualified personnel.
