Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Cooling of the body due to insufficient insulation, cold ground or damp, with a risk of hypothermia.
  • Overheating and excessive sweating if the bag is too warm or poorly ventilated.
  • Burns or fire starting if brought close to flames, embers, stoves or cigarettes.
  • Accidental asphyxiation if the hood or drawcords cover the nose and mouth, especially in children.
  • Trapping or pinching with zips and cords.
  • Falls and trips when trying to walk or stand up inside the bag.
  • Skin reactions or discomfort due to materials, dirt, mould or persistent damp.

Safe use

  • Choose a bag suited to the expected conditions and use an insulating mat to reduce heat loss to the ground.
  • Adjust the hood and drawcords moderately, keeping your face clear so you can breathe easily.
  • Regulate temperature by partially opening the zip or loosening the hood if it is warm; avoid sleeping in wet clothing.
  • Keep the bag away from flames, embers and stoves; do not cook or smoke near it or inside the tent.
  • Use it on a clean, dry surface; use a groundsheet or base to prevent ground moisture.
  • Get out of the bag before moving around the campsite to prevent falls.
  • Open and close zips carefully to avoid pinching skin or snagging clothing or hair.
  • Protect the bag from rain and condensation while on the move with a waterproof cover; air it after each use.

Storage and maintenance

  • Air-dry the bag completely before storing it to prevent mould and odours.
  • Do not keep it compressed for long periods; store it in a roomy bag or hanging in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Clean only according to the manufacturer's instructions; avoid high washing or drying temperatures, bleaches and solvents.
  • Periodically check seams, zips and cords; repair or replace damaged components.
  • During trips, air it daily and keep the bag separate from wet items, oils, repellents or perfumes.

Usage restrictions

  • Not a flotation device nor, on its own, protection for extreme cold; supplement with appropriate clothing and layers.
  • Not suitable for babies or for cots. For children, use models appropriate to their size and with adult supervision.
  • Do not use the bag near heat sources, embers or stoves, or for sitting by the fire.
  • Do not walk, run or play inside the bag.
  • Do not modify the bag by removing elements that provide adjustment or closure if this could compromise safety.
  • If there is difficulty moving or regulating temperature (for example, for people with reduced mobility or thermal sensitivity), prioritise bags with easy opening and appropriate supervision.
