Warnings and safety precautions
Key risks
- Tipping or shifting if placed on uneven, sloped or slippery surfaces.
- Burns, discolouration or ignition due to proximity to barbecues, hotplates or other sources of heat and flame.
- Weathering: corrosion, swelling, cracking, discolouration from sun, rain, frost or salt air/spray.
- Finger entrapment in doors and drawers; sudden closures induced by wind.
- Build-up of heat or gases if vents are blocked in units housing gas cylinders or appliances.
- Falling objects or shelf breakage due to overloading or poorly distributed loads.
- Injuries during assembly or moving due to heavy weight and sharp edges.
- Slips caused by oil and liquid spillages in the work area.
Safe use
- Install on a firm, level base; anchor or secure the units if specified by the manufacturer to prevent movement and tipping.
- Keep a safe distance from flames and heat sources; use trivets or heat protectors and do not place red-hot utensils on worktops.
- If the unit houses cylinders or equipment, use only the intended compartments and keep vent grilles and ventilation openings clear.
- Distribute weight evenly and observe the recommended load; avoid concentrating weight on edges and do not stand or hang on worktops, doors or drawers.
- Open one drawer at a time to avoid unbalancing the unit; hold doors and lids on windy days.
- Wipe up grease and liquids immediately; use products compatible with the furniture material and avoid scouring pads or abrasive chemicals.
- During assembly or transport, wear gloves and get help from another person for bulky parts; do not put your fingers into hinges or runners.
- On furniture with castors, apply the brakes before use and move slowly with no loose loads on top.
- In coastal or very sunny areas, consider shade or suitable covers and periodically rinse off salt deposits with fresh water.
Storage and maintenance
- Protect the furniture during episodes of heavy rain, frost or hail with breathable covers; do not cover while damp to prevent mould and corrosion.
- Check screws, hinges, runners and handles periodically; tighten or replace loose or damaged parts to maintain stability.
- Treat surfaces as recommended by the manufacturer (oils/protectors on wood, gentle cleaning on metal/stone); avoid concentrated bleach and aggressive solvents.
- Keep closed areas ventilated; do not store damp textiles or utensils inside.
- Avoid standing water at bases and legs; use suitable shims or levellers and check the non-slip feet.
- Check the seals and joints where they meet worktops and walls; replace them if you notice cracks or detachment, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- If the unit houses gas cylinders, check the compartment is in good condition and that the ventilation openings are not obstructed.
- Store sharp utensils in organisers to prevent cuts and interior damage.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use as a step, seat or work platform.
- Do not exceed the maximum load indicated by the manufacturer on worktops, shelves and drawers.
- Do not place next to open flames or very hot surfaces; maintain clearances and use heat shields when necessary.
- Do not place combustion or electrical appliances inside compartments not designed for them, nor block their ventilation.
- Do not store fuels, solvents, aerosols or lit charcoal/hot coals in enclosed spaces of the furniture.
- Do not drag the loaded unit over uneven floors; lift it with several people to avoid breakages and injuries.
- Do not use non-breathable tarpaulins over damp surfaces or leave standing water or ice for long periods.
- Do not leave children unsupervised in cooking areas or allow them to play with doors, drawers or castors.
