Cable cabinets
Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Tipping over or shifting of the cabinet if not correctly levelled or anchored.
- Finger trapping when closing doors or trays; bumps against corners.
- Deterioration of cable insulation due to pinching, forced bends or rubbing against edges.
- Trips caused by poorly routed cables outside the cabinet.
- Overheating of power strips, adaptors or equipment if ventilation is lacking or dust builds up.
- Electrical hazard from damaged cables, loose plugs or overloaded multi-socket adaptors.
- Falling equipment or objects poorly placed on shelves.
- Unauthorised access to critical cables leading to accidental disconnections.
- Damage from moisture, condensation or nearby spills.
Safe use
- Assemble according to the product instructions, check stability and anchor to the wall or floor where appropriate.
- Place the heaviest items on the lower shelves and distribute the load evenly.
- Route cables through cable pass-throughs, leaving slack at doors and hinges; avoid tight bends and pinching.
- Keep power lines separate from data and audio lines where possible.
- Allow space for internal ventilation; do not obstruct grilles or air outlets of power strips, chargers or routers.
- Use power strips and extension leads within their rated capacity and avoid daisy-chaining them.
- Disconnect the power before reorganising cabling, cleaning or moving the cabinet.
- Secure cables with cable ties or hook-and-loop straps without over-tightening; label them for easy identification.
- Keep the interior free of liquids; clean up any nearby spills immediately.
- Check that doors and trays close without rubbing against or pulling on the cables.
Storage and maintenance
- Position the cabinet in a dry, stable and well-ventilated location, away from sources of heat and moisture.
- Leave clearance around it, especially at the rear and top, to aid heat dissipation.
- Periodically remove dust from the interior and grilles with a soft cloth or a low-suction vacuum; avoid abrasive products.
- Regularly check the condition of cables, plugs and power strips; replace any that show wear, cuts or abnormal heating.
- Periodically check screws, hinges, levelling feet and anchor fixings; re-tighten if necessary.
- Do not place excessive weight on the top of the cabinet.
- Before moving it, empty it as far as possible and secure or remove cabling so it does not snag.
Restrictions of use
- For indoor, dry areas; not suitable for outdoor use or areas with condensation or splashes unless expressly stated by the product.
- Do not use as a step, seat or support; do not hang from doors or trays.
- Do not exceed the maximum load indicated for the unit, shelves or drawers.
- Do not make electrical splices or carry out cable repairs inside the cabinet.
- Avoid charging multiple devices in an enclosed space without adequate ventilation.
- Do not store liquids, flammable aerosols or heat sources inside the cabinet.
- Keep out of reach of children, or lock with a key if there is a risk of tampering.
- Do not position the cabinet so that it blocks corridors, exits or walkways.
