Usage Warnings

Paper Shredders

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Possible entrapment of fingers, hands, hair, ties, sleeves or pendants in the feed slot.
  • Unexpected automatic start-up when material is brought near the feed opening.
  • Jams that may cause motor overheating and the sudden ejection of fragments.
  • Cuts when attempting to clean or clear areas near the blades.
  • Electrical hazard due to moisture, splashes or damaged cables/plugs.
  • Tipping over or knocks when moving the unit or when removing the waste bin.
  • Noise and paper dust that may cause discomfort or irritation in sensitive individuals.

Safe use

  • Place the shredder on a stable, level surface; if it has castors, keep them locked during use.
  • Keep hands away from the slot; tie back long hair and avoid loose clothing, lanyards, ID badges or dangling jewellery near the unit.
  • Keep the cable area clear to avoid snags and trip hazards.
  • Always unplug before emptying the waste bin, cleaning, lubricating or clearing jams.
  • Do not exceed the sheet capacity; feed paper straight and without forcing. Remove staples and paper clips unless the model is rated for them.
  • Shred only materials the model is designed for (e.g., cards or CDs only if permitted). Avoid damp paper, laminated items, adhesives, window envelopes or thick cardboard unless specified.
  • In the event of a jam, use the reverse function if available and wait for a complete stop; do not insert fingers or sharp tools.
  • Observe duty cycles and cooling pauses. If it overheats, switch off and allow it to cool down.
  • Do not cover grilles or ventilation openings. Leave space around it for airflow.
  • Lubricate as per the manufacturer's instructions using compatible products; avoid flammable aerosols and apply them with the unit unplugged.
  • Empty the waste bin regularly to prevent waste reaching the blades and causing jams.

Storage and maintenance

  • Use and store indoors, in a dry, ventilated location away from sources of heat or moisture.
  • Disconnect from the mains if it will not be used for extended periods.
  • Clean the exterior with a dry or slightly damp cloth; do not spray liquids into the slots or use abrasive products.
  • Periodically check the cable and plug; if you notice damage, stop using the unit.
  • With the machine unplugged, gently remove dust and debris from the slot and sensors using a soft brush.
  • Keep the waste bin and the surrounding area free from excessive build-up of paper dust.

Usage restrictions

  • Not suitable for use by children; keep the shredder out of their reach and unplugged when not in use. Supervise inexperienced users.
  • For indoor use only; do not use outdoors, in bathrooms or in environments with high humidity or airborne dust.
  • Do not modify or remove guards, covers or safety sensors.
  • Do not leave the machine powered on or unattended; switch it off after each use.
  • Do not feed fabrics, gloves, ropes, plastic bags, long continuous strips or metal objects, unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use the equipment if it emits a burning smell, smoke or exhibits unusual noises or vibrations; switch off and unplug.
  • People with reduced mobility, vision or dexterity should use it with appropriate assistance or supervision.
