Usage Warnings

Outdoor Furniture Covers

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Entrapment or suffocation if someone, especially children or pets, goes under the cover.
  • Being blown by strong winds; the cover or its straps may come loose or whip about.
  • Build-up of water, snow or leaves that adds weight, deforms the cover and may destabilise or tip over the furniture.
  • Condensation and lack of ventilation that encourage mould, bad odours, rust or stains on the furniture.
  • Risk of fire or warping if brought near flames, embers, heaters or hot barbecues.
  • Trips and entanglement from loose edges, long cords or dangling straps.
  • Irritation from dust, pollen or mould when shaking out or handling very dirty covers.

Safe use

  • Ensure the furniture is cool and completely dry before covering.
  • Choose an appropriate size and fit it without forcing; avoid scraping against sharp edges and pointed parts.
  • Secure the cover with the intended fastenings (straps, cords, buckles) and tidy any excess so it does not hang down.
  • Create a slight slope so water does not pool; use supports or poles if the model allows.
  • Allow the cover to breathe if it has vents; avoid sealing it to the ground to reduce condensation.
  • Keep a safe distance from heat sources and flames; do not cover equipment while still hot.
  • Carefully remove any accumulated water, snow and debris so as not to destabilise the furniture.
  • In strong winds, reinforce the fastening or temporarily remove the cover.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with water and mild soap; rinse and allow to air dry.
  • Avoid bleach, solvents and high-pressure jets that could damage seams and coatings.
  • Dry completely before storing or covering again to prevent mould and bad odours.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated, shaded place when not in use; away from direct heat.
  • Shake off sand, leaves and debris so they do not scratch the furniture.
  • Periodically check seams, eyelets and buckles; repair small tears or replace if the damage is significant.
  • Frequently remove accumulated water or snow during the season to extend the service life.

Restrictions on use

  • Not a toy; keep out of the reach of children and pets and prevent them from getting under the cover.
  • Do not use to cover barbecues, braziers, stoves or other equipment that is lit or hot.
  • Do not use as a drag tarpaulin, makeshift awning or for purposes other than covering furniture.
  • Do not block walkways, access points or exits with loose covers, cords or hanging corners.
  • Do not sit or lean on furniture while it is covered; remove the cover before using the furniture.
  • Do not cover freshly painted, varnished or treated surfaces until they are completely cured and dry.
  • Do not use the cover if it cannot be secured properly or if it has tears that compromise its fastening.
