Usage Warnings

Bean Bag Fillings

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Risk of inhalation, choking and suffocation if the filling (microbeads or shredded foam) is released, particularly for children and pets.
  • Irritation of the airways, eyes or skin from dust generated during filling or handling.
  • Slips and falls due to material spilled on the floor.
  • Potential flammability of some fillings on contact with sparks, flames or heat sources.
  • Bursting seams or zips of the beanbag due to overfilling, with sudden release of material.
  • Sudden opening of compressed packaging and cuts when using tools to open them.

Safe use

  • Open the packaging slowly and away from your face, using blunt tools and avoiding deep cuts.
  • Keep children and pets away during filling and handling.
  • Fill in an enclosed, draught-free area on a large, clean surface; use a funnel or inner liner if the beanbag has one.
  • If dust is generated, consider wearing a light face mask and safety glasses; wash your hands when finished.
  • Pour gradually and check the volume; do not overfill. Leave room for the beanbag to settle and avoid straining the zip.
  • Fully secure the beanbag closure (zip or locking mechanism) after filling.
  • Clean up any spill immediately; sweep or vacuum carefully. Do not pour it down drains.
  • Keep heat sources, cigarettes and sparks away during handling.
  • To reduce static electricity, avoid very synthetic garments and touch a metal surface before pouring.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store the filling in its bag, tightly sealed, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets, preferably in a closed container or on a high shelf.
  • Avoid punctures and heavy compression on the bags to prevent leaks.
  • Keep away from moisture; if the filling gets wet, allow it to dry completely before reusing.
  • Regularly check the inner liner, seams and closures of the beanbag and act on any signs of wear or leakage.
  • Do not wash the filling or mix different types unless expressly instructed by the beanbag manufacturer.
  • Regularly clean the area where the beanbag is used to detect and remove small leaks.

Restrictions of use

  • Not a toy and not suitable for children under 3 years; an adult must supervise during filling.
  • Do not ingest or inhale; do not insert the material into the nose or ears.
  • Do not use if the inner liner or the beanbag zip are damaged, or if there is no secure locking mechanism.
  • Do not use near open flames, heaters, hobs or equipment that emits heat.
  • Do not use outdoors in windy conditions or in areas where the material can disperse easily.
  • People with asthma, allergies or sensitivity to dust should avoid direct exposure during filling.
  • Do not allow anyone to climb into empty beanbag covers or filling bags.
  • Dispose of remnants in household waste; do not flush them down the toilet or pour them down drains.
