Usage Warnings

Safety Gates

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls if the gate is installed incorrectly or if an unsuitable system is used at the top of stairs.
  • Trips over the threshold or bottom bar when passing through.
  • Finger pinching in hinges or latches during opening and adjustment.
  • Entrapment between bars if there are unsuitable gaps or if spaces remain between the gate and the wall/banister.
  • Detachment due to weak fixings on fragile, hollow or uneven surfaces.
  • Tipping or deformation under strong pushes from children or pets if the structure is not well anchored.
  • Burns if used as a guard near fireplaces, stoves or other heat sources.
  • Snagging or strangulation with ropes, cords or hanging toys placed near the gate.
  • Ingestion of small parts if screws, caps or trim pieces come loose.

Safe use

  • Choose the appropriate type and size for the opening and intended use; for the top of stairs, a screw-fixed system is usually safer.
  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions and check that the latch is fully engaged on each use.
  • Use the appropriate anchoring kits for walls, frames or banisters; avoid improvising with cable ties, ropes or adhesives as the only fixing.
  • Test stability by applying moderate pressure at different points after installation and adjustments.
  • Keep the passage area clear; use the gate opening and avoid stepping over it to prevent trips.
  • Do not place furniture, toys or objects that could serve as a 'step' next to the gate.
  • Use only extensions and spare parts compatible with the specific model.
  • If used near heat sources, keep a safe distance and avoid contact with surfaces that may become hot.
  • Supervise children and pets when they are nearby; the gate is an aid, not a substitute for supervision.

Storage and maintenance

  • Regularly check screws, wall cups, anchors, latches and hinges; readjust or replace if you detect looseness or wear.
  • Ensure the non-slip pads and stops are in good condition to prevent slipping or damage to surfaces.
  • Clean with a soft cloth and wipe away moisture to prevent corrosion or warping.
  • Lubricate moving points only if specified by the manufacturer and with suitable products.
  • After an impact or fall, check alignment and stability before using again.
  • When not in use, store the gate in a dry place, with its small parts in a sealed bag and out of the reach of children.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use pressure-fit gates exclusively at the top of stairs; in that location prioritise screw-fixed systems.
  • Do not use it to block access to swimming pools, balconies, windows or areas with a risk of falling from height.
  • Do not use it outdoors unless the product expressly states it is suitable for this.
  • Stop using it when the child can climb, open the latch or exceed the height of the gate.
  • Do not use it to contain pets that can jump, chew or deform the structure.
  • Do not modify or drill structural parts, or mix extensions from other models or brands.
  • Do not install on glass, plaster without suitable anchors, or other weak or very uneven surfaces.
  • Do not sit on, lean on or climb the gate; always use the opening mechanism.
