Shower Curtains
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Slips and falls caused by water spilling out if the curtain does not properly cover the inside of the bath or shower tray.
- Mould, mildew and unpleasant odours due to accumulated moisture, with possible irritation to the skin or respiratory tract.
- The rail falling or rings breaking if pulled with force, posing a risk of injury.
- Accidental entanglement, especially in children, if they wrap themselves in the curtain.
- Small parts (rings, hooks, magnets or weights) that may come loose and pose a choking hazard.
- Minor cuts when handling metal hooks or rings.
- Warping due to heat or contact with heaters, with a possible risk of burns when touching hot surfaces.
- Strong odours from new plastic curtains that may be unpleasant in poorly ventilated spaces.
Safe use
- Secure the rail and brackets according to the product instructions and check they are firmly in place before each use.
- Position the curtain so it sits inside the bath or shower tray and covers the full width to contain splashes.
- Keep the curtain closed during showering and use a non-slip mat outside the bath or shower to reduce the risk of slipping.
- Slide the curtain gently; avoid yanking, which may dislodge hooks, rings or fixings.
- After each use, shake off excess water, fully extend it and ventilate the bathroom to aid drying.
- Keep the curtain away from radiators, heaters or heat sources and from sockets or electrical appliances.
- If you notice strong odours when unpacking a vinyl or PVC curtain, air it before first use.
- Regularly check seams, hems, magnets and rings; replace the curtain if there are tears, persistent mould or loose parts.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean periodically following the manufacturer's instructions; in general, lukewarm water and mild soap are suitable.
- Avoid strong bleach, solvents or abrasive scourers unless specified; test first in a discreet area.
- Remove rings and hooks before washing if applicable, and dry completely before rehanging.
- Do not fold or store the curtain while damp; keep it extended until dry to reduce mould growth.
- If not in use for a time, store it in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Keep it away from sharp or rough objects that could tear the material.
Restrictions on use
- Not a support device: do not hang from it, climb on it or use it to lean on or bear weight.
- Do not allow children to play at wrapping themselves in or hiding behind the curtain; supervision in the bathroom is required when children are present.
- Keep rings, hooks, magnets, weights and packaging out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not modify the curtain or add improvised weights (staples, chains, etc.); do not overload the rail with accessories.
- Do not use if the material is sticky, cracked or emits a persistent strong odour; replace with one in good condition.
- Keep it away from open flames and appliances that produce direct heat.
