Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts when handling and cutting panels; edges and fragments can be sharp.
- Inhalation of cutting dust or vapours from some adhesives; possible eye, skin or respiratory irritation.
- Fire risk if flammable adhesives or cleaners are used near flames or sparks.
- Falls when working at height with ladders or when moving around the work area.
- Electrical risk when working near sockets, switches or concealed wiring.
- Panelling may come loose if the substrate is not sound, clean and dry, or if adhesive curing times are not observed.
- Damp and mould behind panels if joints and perimeters are not sealed in wet areas.
- Slips due to adhesive residue or loose pieces on the floor during installation.
Safe use
- Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the panelling, adhesive and accessories.
- Prepare the substrate: it must be stable, clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose material.
- Cut on a firm surface using suitable tools; wear protective gloves and safety glasses.
- Ventilate the area well during and after installation; avoid smoking, sparks and open flames nearby when using adhesives or cleaners.
- Isolate the power at the consumer unit before removing faceplates or working around electrical sockets.
- Apply the adhesive in the recommended amount and remove any excess; observe drying/curing times before cleaning, wetting or subjecting the panelling to stress.
- Seal joints and perimeters in kitchens and bathrooms to prevent water ingress to the substrate.
- Use profiles and trims to protect exposed edges and corners.
- If you need to hang objects, anchor into the base wall with suitable fixings; do not rely on the PVC panel to carry the load.
- Keep the work area tidy, remove offcuts and clean adhesive residues from the floor to avoid trips or slips.
- Use a stable ladder in good condition; do not overreach and do not work from the top steps beyond the recommended level.
Storage and maintenance
- Store panels indoors, in a dry, ventilated place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
- Place the packs horizontally on a flat surface; avoid storing them upright for long periods to prevent deformation.
- Keep the product in its packaging until use and protect edges and surfaces from impacts.
- Allow the panelling to acclimatise in the room before installation, as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not stack heavy loads on the panels to avoid bowing or damage.
- Clean with a soft cloth and a neutral detergent; rinse and dry. Avoid abrasive scouring pads, strong solvents and very hot steam.
- Periodically check seals and joints; repair any open joints or detachment to prevent water and dirt ingress.
- Promote ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens to reduce condensation and the formation of mould.
- Promptly remove splashes of grease, limescale or chemicals with compatible cleaners specified by the manufacturer.
Usage restrictions
- Do not install in areas with direct exposure to flames or next to intense heat sources (hobs, stoves, radiators) without adequate thermal separation.
- Do not use in saunas, ovens, fireplaces or other environments with extreme temperatures.
- Not suitable for continuous immersion or for high-use showers unless the product explicitly states so and specific sealants are applied.
- Do not use outdoors unless explicitly permitted by the manufacturer.
- Do not use as a work surface, step, climbing aid or structural element.
- Do not hang loads directly from the panel without anchoring to the solid substrate.
- Do not apply over unstable substrates, with persistent damp or mould present, without first resolving the issue.
- Keep tools, small parts and packaging bags out of the reach of children and pets during installation.
