Usage Warnings
Bicycle Trailers
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Overturning on tight corners, kerbs or potholes, with a risk of the bike–trailer combination falling over.
- Increased braking distance and reduced manoeuvrability when turning or swerving to avoid obstacles.
- Accidental uncoupling due to incorrect hitch installation or poorly secured fastenings.
- Instability due to overloading or uneven weight distribution inside the trailer.
- Low visibility to other road users, especially in rain, fog or at night.
- Pinch points at folding joints, the hitch and areas close to the wheels.
- Stones, mud or water thrown up from the wheels towards occupants or cargo.
- Excessive heat, cold or lack of ventilation for occupants in enclosed cabins.
- Impacts with obstacles due to the increased width and length of the bike–trailer combination.
Safe use
- Fit and secure the hitch according to the manufacturer’s instructions; check pins, latches and straps before every ride.
- Check compatibility with your bicycle and ensure the axle and rear wheel are correctly adjusted.
- Set the trailer tyre pressure within the specified range and check their overall condition.
- Distribute the load low, centred and well secured; avoid items that protrude or move while riding.
- Do not exceed the maximum load or number of occupants; use the internal harnesses and a helmet for children where appropriate.
- Ride at a moderate speed, increase your following distance and take wide corners; mount kerbs at an angle and at low speed.
- Improve visibility with a tall flag, reflectors and lights if conditions require it and the model allows.
- Keep hands, clothing and straps away from wheels and latching points; secure the trailer when loading/unloading by engaging the parking brake if fitted.
- Inspect the setup after heavy bumps or on your first rides: check for looseness at the hitch, wheel attachment and internal restraints.
- For pets, use the internal tether if provided and ensure ventilation and access to water.
Storage and maintenance
- Periodically inspect bolts and fixings, hitch, axles and quick-releases; replace worn or damaged parts with compatible spares.
- Check tyre pressure and condition; replace tyres with cuts, deformations or very worn tread.
- Clean the chassis and fabrics after rain or mud; dry and ventilate well to prevent corrosion and odours.
- Lubricate the moving points recommended by the manufacturer (hinges and hitch joints) sparingly.
- Store the trailer in a dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and heat sources; avoid supporting it in a way that deforms the frame.
- When folding or unfolding, keep fingers clear of the hinges and secure the locks before moving or transporting.
- Before each use, check reflectors/lights if fitted, the condition of the harnesses and that the wheels are properly seated in their mounts.
Usage restrictions
- Do not exceed the speed recommended by the manufacturer; avoid prolonged high-speed descents and harsh braking.
- Do not carry people in models designed for cargo only; never carry children or pets without a harness.
- Do not use the trailer with bicycles that are not compatible with its hitch system.
- Avoid technical terrain, steps, ice, snow, deep sand or thick mud that could cause loss of control.
- Do not ride in very low visibility without adequate lighting; avoid strong winds that could destabilise the bike–trailer combination.
- Do not modify the hitch, frame or restraint systems; do not carry out makeshift structural repairs.
- Do not tow with motorcycles or mopeds; with e-bikes, limit assistance to moderate speeds and avoid sudden acceleration.
- Do not leave children or pets unattended inside the trailer, especially in the sun or with the cabin closed.
- Do not transport sharp or hot objects, or hazardous substances, without adequate protection, and never loose inside the compartment.
- Do not attempt to pass through narrow gaps without accounting for the trailer’s extra width to avoid snags or impacts.
