Safety warnings and precautions
Key risks
- Electrical hazard from connections and plugs coming into contact with water or moisture.
- Leaks or hose disconnections that can cause flooding or partial draining of the pond.
- Running dry or while obstructed can overheat and damage the equipment.
- Hazardous exposure to UV light from clarifiers if the housing is opened while switched on.
- Excessive suction that may trap fry or small invertebrates.
- Harm to fish and plants due to inappropriate flow rate or insufficient filtration.
- Slips and falls when working on wet pond edges.
- Cuts or pinches when handling housings, hose clips or rotors.
- Biological risk when cleaning filter media containing sludge and organic waste.
Safe use
- Read the product instructions and always disconnect from the mains before installing, opening or cleaning the filter.
- Place the equipment on a stable, accessible surface; keep cables and hoses tidy to prevent trips and to stop them falling into the water.
- Use outdoor sockets with covers and weather-protected connections; avoid makeshift extension leads and do not handle with wet hands.
- Keep inlets and outlets clear; use appropriate screens or pre-filters if there are small fish.
- Do not switch on or look directly at the UV lamp outside its housing; check that the closures are properly sealed before reconnecting.
- Secure hoses with compatible hose clips and check they are not twisted or pinched.
- Prevent the equipment from running dry; purge air or prime the system as per the product instructions.
- For cleaning, do not use detergents or harsh products; rinse sponges and media with water from the pond itself.
- Wear gloves and handle sludge carefully; wash your hands after handling.
- Monitor the flow rate and adjust it if the flow stresses the fish or stirs up excessive sediment.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean sponges and media periodically when you notice a drop in flow; do not wait for complete blockages.
- Regularly check hoses, seals and hose clips; replace worn parts with compatible spares.
- Check the condition of the cable and plug; do not use the equipment if you see cuts, cracks or loose connections.
- If the model includes UV, replace the lamp and seals according to the product instructions.
- Protect the system from severe frost; if the equipment is not suitable for low temperatures, drain it and store it in a dry, sheltered place.
- Keep the surroundings free of leaves and sludge to prevent blockages at the filter or pump inlet.
- After each intervention, perform a functional test and check for possible leaks before leaving it in continuous operation.
- Do not completely cover external filters; allow ventilation and access for inspection.
Restrictions of use
- Intended for ornamental pond water; not suitable for drinking water, swimming pools or marine aquariums unless expressly stated.
- Do not use the filter with hot, corrosive liquids or with chemicals not designed for ponds.
- Do not submerge equipment that is not submersible, nor expose external models to immersion.
- Do not use the appliance if the housing, cable or plug is damaged.
- Do not pull the cable or hoses to move or lift the equipment.
- Keep the equipment out of reach of children and pets; supervise when the area is accessible.
- Do not obstruct or excessively reduce the diameter of outlets; avoid pinching hoses.
- Do not open sealed housings or modify components, especially on UV units.
- Avoid continuous use without water or with blocked inlets; switch off and correct any fault before restarting.
