Usage Warnings

Suction and Delivery Hoses

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Rupture due to overpressure or excessive vacuum, with possible hose “whip” and water discharge.
  • Leaks or disconnections at couplings and clamps that may cause flooding and property damage.
  • Collapse from excessive bending or crushing, reducing the flow rate and potentially damaging the pump.
  • Suction of sand, sludge or foreign objects causing blockages or premature wear.
  • Deterioration due to chemical incompatibility or unsuitable temperature of the pumped liquid.
  • Ageing from sun, ozone or abrasion, leading to cracks, hardening or bulging.
  • Trip and fall hazard from hoses laid across walkways.
  • Water spraying towards nearby equipment or electrical sockets.

Safe use

  • Check the hose’s compatibility with the intended liquid, working pressure and temperature.
  • Inspect before each use: do not use if there are cuts, cracks, bulges, hardening or corrosion on couplings.
  • Fit couplings of the correct diameter and secure with suitable clamps; verify tightness without constricting the hose.
  • Maintain generous bend radii; avoid stepping on it or crushing it with vehicles or objects.
  • On suction lines, keep the line airtight; prime the pump as required and use a strainer at the intake to retain solids.
  • On discharge, pressurise gradually and open/close valves slowly to avoid water hammer.
  • Secure and guide the hose to prevent sudden movement; keep people away from pressurised connections.
  • Disconnect the pump power and relieve pressure or vacuum before uncoupling; drain the contents in a controlled manner.
  • Avoid directing the flow towards people, sockets or electrical equipment; protect sharp edges and corners.
  • For submerged intakes, position the end some distance above the bottom to minimise the suction of sediments.

Storage and maintenance

  • Rinse with clean water after use with dirty water; if other liquids were pumped, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for rinsing.
  • Drain completely and allow to dry to prevent mould, unpleasant odours and damage from internal freezing.
  • Store coiled with wide curves, without forced kinks or twists; do not hang from a single point.
  • Protect from direct sunlight, ozone, heat sources, oils, solvents and sharp objects.
  • Keep the ends capped to prevent the ingress of dust, insects or dirt.
  • Periodically check couplings, seals and clamps; replace them if they show wear or rust.
  • Replace the hose if cracks, bulges, softened areas, abnormal stiffness or leaks appear.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated place, out of reach of children and rodents.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not exceed the service pressure, permissible vacuum or temperature range specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use with compressed air, gas or steam.
  • Do not pump fuels, oils, solvents or other chemicals unless the hose expressly indicates suitability.
  • Do not use for drinking water or food applications unless specifically indicated.
  • Do not use the hose as a securing, lifting or towing element.
  • Do not pierce, burn, weld or attempt repairs with tapes or adhesives that may fail under pressure.
  • Do not leave the pressurised system unattended for prolonged periods.
  • Do not allow use by minors; installation and handling must be performed by adults familiar with water pumps and basic plumbing.
