Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Punctures, cuts or splinters when handling rods, wires, timber or metal edges.
- Tipping or collapse of supports, trellises or arches due to wind, unstable ground or overloading, with a risk of impact injuries.
- Trips over bases, feet, cords or poorly positioned stakes in walkways.
- Plant damage due to ties being too tight, continuous rubbing or poor placement of the support.
- Corrosion, rot or cracks that weaken the structure and may cause sudden failure.
- Accidental puncturing of irrigation lines or hidden wiring when driving into the ground or a wall.
- Injuries from uncovered upper tips at face or eye height.
Safe use
- Wear gloves and closed footwear; handle tips with care and, where possible, protect the upper ends with caps or tape.
- Install the support while the plant is still manageable to avoid stressing stems and roots.
- Insert stakes gradually and straight; do not force if you meet resistance. Check beforehand that there are no pipes or cables in the area.
- Leave slack in ties and fastenings for the plant to grow; avoid materials that cut or constrict.
- Position supports away from walkways and doorways. Secure trellises and arches with suitable fixings and, if bulky, assemble them with two people.
- Do not hang pots or other additional weights if the product is not designed for that purpose.
- After strong winds or heavy rain, check stability and adjust ties and fixings.
- Trim or secure excess cords and cable ties so there are no protruding ends.
Storage and maintenance
- Regularly check for rust, splinters, sharp edges, cracks or deformation. Replace damaged parts.
- Clean off soil and plant debris; dry before storing. Avoid harsh cleaners that may corrode or degrade.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place; when not in use, protect plastics and fibres from prolonged sun exposure.
- Store stakes bundled and with tips protected to prevent snagging and accidental cuts.
- In storms or frosts, remove or secure light structures to prevent them from being blown away.
- Check ties frequently and readjust them to avoid strangling stems as they grow.
Restrictions of use
- Not suitable as a ladder, handrail, swing or for supporting the weight of people or pets.
- Do not allow children to play with the stakes or climb the supports; keep the tips out of their reach.
- Do not install tall or metal supports under power lines or near sources of electricity.
- Do not hang heavy loads or accessories not intended by the manufacturer.
- Do not use on unstable surfaces without adequate fixings to ensure stability.
- Avoid modifying, drilling or cutting structural elements if this could compromise their strength. Dispose of the product if it shows advanced deterioration.
