Key risks

  • Finger entrapment when closing the lid or at the hinges.
  • Tipping of the trunk or stacked boxes falling if unstable.
  • Injuries from lifting heavy or poorly distributed loads.
  • Entrapment or suffocation if a child climbs in and the lid closes.
  • Damage from overloading: broken handles, bases or lids.
  • Damp, mould and unpleasant odours if textiles or sensitive items are stored without ventilation.
  • Risk of fire or overheating if flammable materials or appliances left plugged in are stored inside.
  • Trip hazards if placed in walkways or if the open lid encroaches into the passageway.

Safe use

  • Check the condition and the manufacturer’s instructions on load and stacking before use.
  • Open and close by holding the lid, and keep hands away from hinges and catches.
  • Prevent the lid from slamming; keep it supported while placing or removing items.
  • Distribute weight evenly and place heavier items at the bottom.
  • Use the handles to move it; do not drag. Ask for help with bulky loads.
  • If stacking, place larger or heavier units at the bottom and on level surfaces; do not stack to an unstable height.
  • Store liquids only in watertight containers and separate from textiles or documents.
  • Protect sharp or fragile items with suitable covers or wrapping.
  • Keep trunks away from heat sources, naked flames and radiators.
  • Keep keys and locks out of the reach of children.

Storage and maintenance

  • Place in dry, well-ventilated areas; avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.
  • Clean with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Wipe up any spills inside immediately to prevent mould.
  • Regularly check hinges, catches and handles; if they are loose or damaged, stop using until repaired.
  • Air the interior from time to time, especially if storing textiles or footwear.
  • For delicate floors, place protectors on the base to prevent marks or slipping.
  • If used outdoors, choose suitable models and shelter them from rain whenever possible.
  • Ensure batteries or electronic devices are not left connected or on charge inside.

Restrictions of use

  • Not a toy: do not allow children to play inside, on or around it without supervision.
  • Do not use the trunk or box as a seat, step or platform unless expressly stated.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load or stacking height recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not store hazardous substances (flammable, corrosive or toxic) in containers not designed for that purpose.
  • Do not store food without airtight packaging to prevent pests and odours.
  • Do not place trunks or boxes blocking exits, narrow corridors, sockets or ventilation grilles.
  • Do not use outdoors if the product is not designed for outdoor use.
