Tablecloths and Placemats
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Burns or risk of fire if the tablecloth or placemats come into contact with flames, candles, embers or very hot utensils.
- Spills and tipping of tableware due to the textile slipping, or due to folds and creases that destabilise plates and glasses.
- Accidental pulling of the tablecloth by children, pets or snagging on clothing/objects, which may cause objects to fall and hot liquids to spill.
- Suffocation from packaging bags and risk of ingestion of small detached parts (weights, clips, decorations).
- Pinching or minor cuts when handling clamps, fastening clips or the rigid edges of some placemats.
- Hygiene risks (bad odours, mould, bacteria) if stored while damp or not cleaned after use with food.
Safe use
- Always keep away from heat sources and flames; use heat-resistant trivets and coasters for very hot containers.
- Place on clean, dry and stable surfaces; smooth out wrinkles and creases to prevent instability of the tableware.
- Avoid excessive overhang of the tablecloth that could catch or be pulled; in the presence of children or pets, consider placemats or discreet securing systems.
- Ensure the placemats do not slip; if necessary, use non-slip underlays suitable for the table surface.
- Clean the surface before first use and after each meal; rinse away any cleaner residues thoroughly from areas that come into contact with food.
- Wipe up spills immediately, especially hot liquids, to reduce the risk of burns and persistent staining.
- Do not use as a cutting surface or to rest hot appliances; avoid direct contact with pans, pots or trays straight from the hob/oven.
- Always place candles in stable candle holders and at a sufficient distance from the textile.
Storage and maintenance
- Follow the product care instructions; avoid harsh cleaners or solvents that may leave residues.
- Wash and rinse properly after contact with food; dry completely before storing to prevent mould and bad odours.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight that could degrade colours and materials.
- For rigid or semi-rigid placemats, roll or store flat to prevent warping and lifted edges.
- Periodically lift waterproof placemats to clean and air the table surface, avoiding trapped moisture.
- Check seams, edging, clips, weights and decorations; if there are breaks, cracks or loose parts, repair or remove from use.
Usage restrictions
- Not suitable for direct contact with flames or embers, nor for use in or on appliances (oven, microwave, hobs).
- Do not place extremely hot containers directly on the tablecloth or placemat; always use suitable trivets.
- Do not use as thermal protective equipment or as a cutting or chopping surface.
- Keep packaging bags, clips, weights and detachable parts out of the reach of babies and young children.
- Outdoors, secure the tablecloth against the wind to prevent tipping and tableware being knocked over.
- If they emit a strong odour after unpacking, air them before first use in contact with food.
