Usage Warnings

Bedspreads

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Risk of fire and burns if the bedspread comes into contact with flames, candles, cigarettes, radiators, heaters, stoves or hot lamps.
  • Risk of suffocation and overheating in babies and people with reduced mobility if over-covered.
  • Risk of trips and falls if the bedspread trails on the floor or is poorly positioned.
  • Possible choking or entanglement with tassels, fringes, cords or small appliqués, especially in children and pets.
  • Skin or respiratory reactions in individuals sensitive to certain fibres, dyes or textile treatments.
  • Mould growth and dust-mite build-up if there is moisture or lack of ventilation, with potential respiratory impact.
  • Strain injuries when handling bulky or very wet bedspreads due to their weight.

Safe use

  • Spread the bedspread evenly and adjust it so it does not trail or create folds that could cause tripping.
  • Keep it away from heat sources and open flames; do not smoke in bed.
  • Do not cover babies' heads or allow young children to sleep under thick bedspreads; use bedding appropriate for their age and the room temperature.
  • Regularly check seams, trims and cords; remove or repair any loose elements that could snag or detach.
  • Always use the bedspread dry and on a bed that is also dry and ventilated to avoid trapped moisture.
  • Follow the care label instructions for washing and drying; avoid high temperatures or harsh products that could deteriorate the fabric.
  • Dry completely before putting it back on and air it frequently to reduce dust and dust mites.
  • When moving or wringing out a large or wet bedspread, do so with help or in sections to reduce strain and prevent falls.
  • Remove and safely dispose of plastic packaging and keep it out of the reach of children to prevent a risk of suffocation.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store in a dry, clean and well-ventilated place; avoid damp areas or direct contact with cold walls.
  • Ensure it is completely dry before storing to prevent mould and musty odours.
  • Prefer breathable covers for storage; avoid airtight plastic bags for prolonged periods.
  • Avoid prolonged compression that could deform the padding or affect the fabric drape.
  • Wash at a suitable frequency according to use and time of year; shake out and air regularly.
  • Check seams and surfaces; repair or replace if there are tears, loose threads or damaged embellishments.
  • Keep away from chemicals, solvents and perfumes that could affect the skin or damage the material.

Usage restrictions

  • Not suitable as bedding in cots or Moses baskets, nor for infants under 12 months.
  • Do not use to cover heaters, lamps, light bulbs, cables or plug sockets.
  • Do not use as an ironing surface or apply irons or steamers directly to the bedspread.
  • Do not use as a fire blanket or as a restraint, rope or toy.
  • Avoid outdoor use without supervision when there are heat sources or wind that could blow it towards flames.
  • Supervise children and pets when tassels, fringes or cords are present to prevent entanglement or ingestion of parts.
