Safety warnings and precautions

Key risks

  • Leaks and flooding due to incorrect installation, wrong orientation or poor sealing.
  • Backflow of potentially contaminated water into the system if the valve fails or a blockage occurs.
  • Water hammer, noise and vibrations from abrupt closure or rapid opening of the flow.
  • Injury from opening connections under pressure or from contact with hot water.
  • Damage to pumps, heaters or meters if the valve jams or is installed in the wrong direction.
  • Corrosion, cracking or rupture due to use with incompatible fluids, pressures or temperatures.

Safe use

  • Verify compatibility with the fluid, operating temperature and pressure of the system, and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Isolate the supply, depressurise and drain the pipework before installing, inspecting or removing the valve.
  • Observe the flow direction indicated on the body and the permitted mounting position for the model.
  • Use compatible sealing materials and gaskets; do not overtighten to avoid cracking or deforming the threads.
  • Keep connections clean and free of particles; if the system carries solids, fit an upstream filter/strainer.
  • Open the supply gradually and check for leaks; monitor for abnormal noises or vibrations after start-up.
  • Do not modify the body or the internal mechanism, and do not lock the valve in the open or closed position.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store valves in a dry, clean place protected from impacts, dust and frost; keep protective caps in place until installation.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the elements or direct sunlight that may degrade seals and plastic components.
  • Before installation, ensure the interior is free from dirt, swarf or packaging debris.
  • Carry out periodic inspections to detect leaks, corrosion, scaling or loss of flow; remove deposits in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In hard-water areas, plan regular descaling and use appropriate filtration to reduce deposits.
  • Replace gaskets or the valve if there is wear, sticking, visible corrosion or damaged threads.
  • Before any maintenance work, isolate and depressurise the system.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use the valve outside the ranges specified by the manufacturer (pressure, temperature and fluid type).
  • Do not use it with gas, fuels, steam or drinking water unless the model is specifically approved for that purpose.
  • Do not use the valve as a full shut-off device or as a primary safety device or high-hazard sanitary backflow prevention component.
  • Do not install it buried or concealed without access for inspection and maintenance.
  • Do not use it with fluids containing abrasive particles without suitable upstream filtration.
  • Do not paint or coat the mechanism in a way that could impede internal movement.
  • Do not reuse valves that are damaged, deformed or have damaged threads.
