Usage Warnings

Outdoor Varnish and Treatments

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Flammability and fire risk in solvent-based products and their vapours.
  • Irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory tract from vapours, splashes or aerosols.
  • Potentially harmful sanding dust when preparing old surfaces.
  • Slippery surfaces while the varnish or protective finish is wet.
  • Falls when working at height (ladders, scaffolding) or on uneven outdoor surfaces.
  • Permanent staining on floors, stone or metal due to drips and splashes.
  • Undesirable reactions when combining incompatible products (water/solvent-based, stains, primers).
  • Risk of spontaneous combustion in rags soaked with oil-based products.
  • Damage to plants, lawns or aquatic life due to poorly managed spills or rinsing.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the instructions on the container; carry out a test in a low-visibility area to verify compatibility and finish.
  • Work with good ventilation; indoors, ensure cross-ventilation and avoid enclosed spaces without air renewal.
  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles and, if there is sanding dust or vapours, an appropriate respirator.
  • Keep sources of ignition away: do not smoke and extinguish open flames, eliminate sparks and switch off equipment that could ignite vapours.
  • Prepare the surface clean, dry and free of dust; remove loose paint or varnish by sanding and vacuuming.
  • Avoid applying in rain, frost, dense fog, strong wind or intense direct sunlight; observe drying and recoat times.
  • Protect adjacent areas with plastic sheeting and tape; control drips and prevent them from reaching drains or porous floors.
  • Apply with tools in good condition; if spraying, increase respiratory protection and control spray mist.
  • Do not eat or drink while working; wash your hands and exposed skin when finished.
  • Cordon off the area and keep children and pets away until fully cured.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store the container tightly closed, upright, in a cool, dry, ventilated place away from heat, sparks and direct sunlight.
  • Protect from extreme temperatures; some products can be damaged by frost or excessive heat.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets; do not decant into food or drink containers.
  • Clean tools as directed by the manufacturer and collect waste; do not pour leftovers or solvents down the drain.
  • Rags soaked with oil-based products: lay them out to air-dry outdoors or submerge them in water until safe disposal; do not leave them piled or crumpled.
  • Clean the rim of the container before closing to prevent crusting and ensure a proper seal.
  • Periodically inspect treated exterior surfaces and reapply when wear, loss of repellency or cracking is observed.
  • Store separately from oxidisers, acids or sources of sparks and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

Restrictions on use

  • Not suitable for surfaces in direct contact with food, drinking water or aquariums, unless expressly stated by the product.
  • Do not use in areas of continuous immersion (pools, ponds) or on damp wood or where visible mould is present.
  • Do not apply near open flames, sparks, heat-generating equipment or while smoking.
  • Do not mix or dilute with products not recommended by the manufacturer (petrol, unspecified alcohols, unsuitable solvents).
  • Do not apply on very hot or frozen surfaces or during persistent rain or dew.
  • Do not pour residues onto the ground, gardens or drains; dispose of leftovers and containers through appropriate collection points.
  • Do not use on toys or objects that may be sucked or chewed by children or pets, unless specifically indicated.
  • For adult use only; when working at height, use a stable ladder and, where possible, work with assistance or supervision.
