Safety warnings and precautions

Key risks

  • Overloading and excessive strain when lifting or carrying, with a risk of muscle and back injuries.
  • Fingers getting trapped in the handles or when setting the basket/trug down on the ground.
  • Cuts or punctures from damaged edges, breakages, splinters, or from sharp objects carried inside.
  • Tipping of contents and knocks if the weight is not balanced or the ground is uneven.
  • Loss of grip and slips when surfaces are wet, muddy or oily.
  • Accidental exposure to residues of fertilisers, contaminated soil or plant protection products previously carried.
  • Burns if used with embers, ashes or hot liquids.
  • A hazard to children if they play inside or cover themselves with large containers.

Safe use

  • Check the overall condition before use: firm handles, no cracks or breaks. Observe the maximum load specified by the manufacturer where provided.
  • Distribute the weight evenly and avoid overloading. Use both hands and, if it is very heavy, ask for help or split the load across several trips.
  • Lift with a straight back and bent knees. Do not pull on a single handle when the contents are heavy.
  • Place down and pick up the basket from the ground carefully to avoid trapping fingers; rest on stable, level surfaces.
  • Carry sharp tools sheathed or separately to prevent puncturing the container and injuries.
  • If transporting chemicals, use a dedicated, clearly labelled container and avoid skin contact. Wash your hands after use.
  • Do not carry liquids or hot materials unless the product is clearly intended for that purpose.
  • Keep the route clear and avoid going up stairs with bulky loads that restrict visibility.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean after each use to remove soil, plant debris and any chemical residues. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from heat sources and prolonged exposure to sunlight to reduce material degradation.
  • Regularly check handles, joints and sides for cracks, sharp edges or deformation. Replace if damaged.
  • Avoid stacking with excessive weight that could deform the containers or compromise the attachment of the handles.
  • If stored outdoors, empty any standing water to prevent odours and insect breeding.
  • Separate and label containers used with chemicals so they are not subsequently used for harvest or other sensitive purposes.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use as a toy, seat, step or work platform.
  • Do not transport people or animals.
  • Do not use with embers, hot ashes, flames, corrosive substances or solvents.
  • Do not use for food unless the product explicitly states it is suitable for food contact.
  • Do not attach to machinery or vehicles, or drag along the ground, unless the product is designed for it.
  • Keep out of the reach of children; if they take part in gardening tasks, provide supervision and light loads appropriate to their age.
