Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Tipping over from wind, knocks or uneven surfaces, potentially causing the pot and soil to fall or spill.
- Heavy weight when filled with soil or water, with risk of back injuries, finger trapping and damage if dropped.
- Breakage of fragile materials and the formation of sharp edges or splinters that may cause cuts.
- Water leaks or overflows causing slips and damage to floors, carpets and walls.
- Standing water in saucers or reservoirs that encourages insects (mosquitoes) and bad odours.
- Overheating in the sun (especially in dark colours or metal), with a risk of minor burns on contact.
- Electrical risk if water reaches nearby sockets, extension leads or light fittings.
- Detachment of hanging or wall-mounted pots if the fixings are not suitable for the surface and the load.
- Unintended movement of planters with wheels, especially on slopes.
Safe use
- Place the pot on a level, firm, non-slip surface; avoid edges and elevated areas if it is not secured.
- Outdoors, protect lightweight pots from strong winds by placing them in sheltered areas or using stable bases.
- Use saucers or trays to collect excess water and empty them regularly to prevent overflows and standing water.
- Do not block drainage holes; water sparingly to prevent water build-up.
- When moving a heavy pot, lighten its contents where possible; lift from the base with assistance or use a trolley. Do not drag it.
- Wear gloves when handling to avoid cuts and dirt, especially if there are cracks or fragments.
- Keep clear of sockets, cables and electrical equipment when watering or emptying saucers.
- For hanging or wall-mounted pots, use fixings suitable for the surface type and the expected load; check the fixings frequently.
- On models with wheels, engage the brake if fitted and avoid placing them on slopes.
- Periodically check for cracks, looseness in legs or bases, and replace damaged parts.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean with water and mild soap; avoid abrasive products that could damage the finish.
- Dry the pot and saucer thoroughly after indoor cleaning or watering to prevent damp and mould.
- Empty soil and water before storing or moving long distances, especially in larger sizes.
- Protect from frost and prolonged extreme sun exposure if the material could deteriorate; store them during the cold season where appropriate.
- Stack only if the design permits; use spacers to prevent them from sticking together or deforming, and store in a stable place.
- Clean drainage holes and saucers regularly to prevent blockages, algae and insects.
- Check wheels, legs, fixings and hangers, retightening or replacing any elements that show looseness or corrosion.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use the pot as a seat, step, table or support; do not stand or sit on it.
- Do not overload with soil, stones or water beyond what is reasonable for its size; adhere to the capacity indicated by the manufacturer.
- Do not drill, cut or modify the pot unless the product permits it; you could weaken its structure.
- Do not place pots suspended or on railings without dedicated systems and a secure fixing to the support.
- Do not place pots where they obstruct corridors, entrances or exits, especially in high-traffic areas.
- Do not place directly on delicate floors without a protective base to prevent moisture and marks.
- Keep small parts (plugs, wheels, decorative stones) out of the reach of children and pets, and supervise on balconies or elevated areas.
- Avoid placing pots under shelves or above resting areas unless they are perfectly secured.
