Usage Warnings
Cutting Discs
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Disc breakage and ejection of fragments at high speed.
- Kickback or disc snagging if the cut pinches, resulting in loss of control of the tool.
- Sparks, burrs and incandescent material with a risk of burns and fire.
- Dust and fine particles that may affect the eyes and respiratory tract.
- Noise and vibration which, with prolonged exposure, may cause discomfort or injury.
- Overheating of the disc and the workpiece, with possible deformation or failure of the cut.
- Accidental contact with the rotating disc, which may cause serious cuts.
- Entanglement and pull-in of loose clothing, hair or cables into the rotating disc.
Safe use
- Check compatibility between the disc and the tool: diameter, thickness, bore/arbour and maximum speed.
- Inspect the disc before use: no visible cracks, knocks, warping, irregular wear, moisture or corrosion; do not use damaged or suspect discs.
- Fit the disc with clean, secure flanges and with the guard in place; do not work without guards.
- Secure the workpiece with vices or clamps and maintain a stable stance with both hands on the tool.
- Allow the disc to reach speed before touching the workpiece; cut in a straight line without applying excessive force or side pressure.
- Do not use cutting discs for lateral grinding or for sanding; use each disc only for its intended purpose.
- Plan the cutting path to avoid pinching; support the workpiece so the kerf does not close on the disc.
- Keep bystanders away from the area; wear sealed goggles or a face shield, close-fitting gloves, appropriate hearing and respiratory protection, and close-fitting clothing.
- Work in a well-ventilated area free of flammable materials; control the direction of sparks and keep basic extinguishing equipment to hand.
- Wait for the disc to come to a complete stop before setting the tool down; disconnect the power when changing discs or making adjustments.
Storage and maintenance
- Store discs in their packaging, in a clean, dry place, away from moisture, frost, excessive heat and direct sunlight.
- Avoid deformation: store flat or vertically as recommended by the manufacturer and do not place weight on top without spacers.
- Protect discs from impacts and dirt; do not use discs that are wet, swollen or visibly corroded.
- Keep the spindle, flanges, nut and guard clean; replace worn or damaged components.
- During use, if vibration, abnormal noise or loss of performance occurs, stop work and check the mounting and the condition of the disc.
- On long cuts, take breaks to allow the disc to cool and prevent overheating.
- Observe the manufacturer's indications on service life or expiry where applicable.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use the disc above its stated maximum speed or on tools without a compatible guard.
- Do not use the disc on materials for which it is not intended (metal, stone, wood, etc.).
- Do not force adaptors, reduction rings or improvised set-ups; use only accessories compatible with the tool.
- Do not work near combustible vapours, combustible dust or easily flammable materials.
- Do not use power tools on wet surfaces or in the rain; keep cables away from the cutting line.
- Do not allow use by minors; inexperienced persons must be supervised.
- Do not use discs that are damaged, have been dropped, or are past their expiry date.
- Do not hold small parts by hand near the cut; use appropriate clamping devices.
- Do not stand in the plane of the disc during start-up; position yourself out of the line of projection.
