Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Potentially harmful vapours that can cause eye and respiratory irritation, headaches or dizziness in poorly ventilated spaces.
  • Flammability in many solvent-based enamels: risk of ignition from flames, sparks or hot surfaces.
  • Direct contact with skin and eyes may cause irritation or sensitisation.
  • Spills that create slippery floors and stains that are difficult to remove.
  • Build-up of vapours in low-lying areas which, in extreme cases, may contribute to flash fires.
  • Incompatibilities with previous coats or certain materials, which can cause peeling, blistering or the release of strong odours.
  • If in aerosol format: pressurised container with a risk of bursting due to heat or puncture.

Safe use

  • Work in well-ventilated areas; ensure airflow and, if necessary, use appropriate respiratory protection.
  • Keep all sources of ignition away: do not smoke and avoid sparks, flames and tools that may become excessively hot.
  • Wear protective gloves, close-fitting goggles and long-sleeved clothing to minimise contact with skin and eyes.
  • Prepare the surface clean, dry and free from dust or grease to reduce unnecessary emissions and improve the result; carry out a test in an inconspicuous area if you are unsure about compatibility.
  • Open the container carefully and keep it closed when not in use to limit the release of vapours and prevent spills.
  • Avoid eating, drinking or smoking during application; wash your hands and any exposed areas afterwards.
  • Remove spills immediately with non-combustible absorbent material and ventilate the area.
  • If using aerosol enamel, spray at the recommended distance, away from your face, and never towards flames or very hot surfaces.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store containers tightly closed, upright, in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, away from sources of heat and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures; do not freeze water-based enamels or expose containers to high heat.
  • Keep products out of reach of children and pets; do not decant into drinks bottles or unlabelled containers.
  • Clean rims and lids before closing to ensure a proper seal and reduce skin formation.
  • Allow rags or cloths soaked with enamel or solvent to air-dry, laid out in a safe place, or place them in a metal container with a sturdy lid; do not pile them up.
  • Before reusing an opened container, stir gently and check the odour and appearance; if you detect any anomalies, avoid using it indoors.
  • Dispose of residues and used solvents through appropriate collection points; do not pour them down the drain or onto the ground.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not apply near flames, sparks, operating appliances that generate heat or very hot surfaces.
  • Do not use in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation, nor for prolonged periods without breaks in fresh air.
  • Do not mix with solvents or additives not recommended by the manufacturer, nor combine with other paints without checking compatibility.
  • Do not use on surfaces in direct contact with food or drinking water unless the product explicitly states its suitability.
  • Not suitable for use by children; keep inexperienced teenagers under supervision.
  • People with asthma, respiratory allergies, very sensitive skin, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should minimise exposure and avoid inhaling vapours.
  • In aerosol format: do not pierce or burn the container, even when empty, and do not expose it to high temperatures.
