Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Burns from contact with hot handles, sides and lids.
  • Scalding from steam when uncovering, or from boiling and spills.
  • Fire or smoke from overheating oil or heating the pot empty.
  • Spills and tip-overs due to overfilling, a warped base or poor placement on the heat/hob.
  • Bumps or cuts from broken glass lids or damaged edges.
  • Worktop or hob damage from overheating or sliding.

Safe use

  • Place the pot centred and stable; match the heat/hob size to the base and avoid the flame rising up the sides.
  • Do not overfill; leave room for boiling (as a guide, avoid exceeding about two thirds of its capacity).
  • Keep the side handles and the long handle turned inward and out of the way to reduce snagging and tip-overs.
  • Use dry oven gloves or pot holders; damp fabric conducts heat and may generate steam.
  • When uncovering, tilt the lid away from your face and hands to direct the steam to the opposite side.
  • Do not heat the pot empty for prolonged periods, and increase the temperature gradually.
  • If frying with oil, do not overheat it or leave the pot unattended; do not overfill and keep a lid nearby to smother a flare-up. Never pour water onto burning oil.
  • Avoid moving the pot when it contains boiling liquid; if essential, do so with both hands and a clear path.
  • Stir with suitable utensils; if your pot has a non-stick coating, prioritise wood, silicone or nylon to avoid scratching.
  • Pour hot liquids away from your body and onto stable surfaces; use a sturdy colander to strain.

Storage and maintenance

  • Allow to cool before washing to avoid thermal shock that could warp the base or crack glass lids.
  • Wash with a soft sponge and non-abrasive detergent; avoid metal scouring pads and harsh products such as bleach.
  • Dry thoroughly to prevent corrosion, stains or odours; store with the lid ajar or with separators.
  • Periodically check handles, screws and lids; tighten or replace any loose, cracked or warped parts.
  • If the interior coating is heavily scratched or flaking, or the base is badly warped, stop using the pot for cooking.
  • When stacking, protect the interior with cloths or protectors to prevent scuffs and knocks.

Usage restrictions

  • Keep out of reach of children; use only by adults or under supervision.
  • Do not place metal pots in the microwave.
  • Do not use in the oven, under the grill or in the dishwasher unless expressly stated by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use the pot if it shows cracks, loose handles, a broken lid or an unstable base.
  • Keep the cooking area free of flammable materials and do not leave the pot on the heat unattended.
  • Do not subject glass lids to impacts or sudden temperature changes.
