Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Tipping of the umbrella stand due to overloading or placing it on uneven surfaces, with risk of injury to feet and ankles.
- Slips caused by water dripping or spilt around the umbrella stand.
- Floor damage (wood swelling, staining or rust) from prolonged moisture or leaks.
- Cuts from sharp edges or breakage if the umbrella stand is made of glass or ceramic.
- Risk of wetting electrical sockets or extension leads if positioned beneath electrical sockets.
- Impact or trapping injuries when moving the umbrella stand while loaded.
Safe use
- Place the umbrella stand on a flat, stable surface; use a non-slip base or absorbent mat when necessary.
- Do not overload: distribute the weight of umbrellas evenly and avoid them protruding excessively.
- Wipe up puddles immediately and empty the drip tray or interior regularly to prevent mould and slips.
- Avoid placing it beneath sockets, switches or extension leads; keep a distance from cables and extension leads.
- To move it, empty any water first and hold it with both hands; do not drag it to avoid damaging the floor or destabilising it.
- If wall-mounted, follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions and periodically check the fixings.
- Stop using the umbrella stand if it shows cracks, splinters, sharp dents or instability.
- Position it so that it does not encroach on walkways, doors or stairways.
Storage and maintenance
- Empty and dry the interior frequently to prevent standing water, unpleasant odours and corrosion.
- Clean with a soft cloth and non-abrasive products to avoid damaging the finish.
- Check the condition of feet or protective felt pads and replace them if worn to protect the floor.
- For metal models, dry after use to minimise the appearance of rust or stains.
- Ventilate the area where the umbrella stand is located to reduce moisture build-up.
- If it will not be used for a time, store it clean and completely dry, in a place free from damp and direct heat.
- Periodically check drip trays, screws and fixings, and any anchors (if present).
Restrictions on use
- Primarily for indoor use, unless the manufacturer expressly indicates suitability for outdoor use.
- Do not use the umbrella stand as a seat, step, climbing aid or to hang from.
- Do not allow small children to play with or climb on the umbrella stand; maintain supervision in busy entrances.
- Do not place it on evacuation routes or where it may obstruct door opening.
- Do not use it to store liquids, sand or other heavy items unrelated to umbrellas and walking sticks.
- Do not expose it to knocks, drops or impacts that could cause breakage or sharp edges.
