Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Finger trapping and impact injuries from the door and locking bolts slamming shut.
- Injury from the weight when moving it; risk of tipping over if not properly anchored or if opened fully on unstable surfaces.
- Damage to walls, floors or hidden services (wiring, pipes) when drilling for anchoring.
- Unintentional lock-out due to lost or forgotten keys or codes; risk of someone becoming trapped inside on large-capacity models.
- Damage to contents from fire, water or humidity if the model is not designed to withstand them.
- Electronic lock failures due to depleted, leaking or corroded batteries.
- Minor cuts from sharp edges, fixings or exposed metal parts.
Safe use
- Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions before installing or using.
- Choose a solid, level base; anchor only at the designated points and use fixings appropriate for the wall or floor material.
- Before drilling, check there are no cables or pipes in the chosen area.
- Keep hands away from hinges and locking bolts when closing; do not slam or strike the door to force it shut.
- Replace factory codes with unique ones; avoid obvious combinations and store keys or cards separately in a secure place.
- Do not overload shelves or place objects that could obstruct the door closing or the locking bolts.
- For electronic models, check the condition of the batteries periodically and keep the emergency opening method specified by the manufacturer to hand.
- In households with children, avoid leaving the door open unsupervised and use doorstops if necessary to prevent sudden closures.
Storage and maintenance
- Position the safe in a dry, stable location, away from sources of direct heat and excessive humidity.
- Clean with a soft cloth and a neutral cleaner; avoid abrasives or solvents that could damage the paintwork and mechanisms.
- Periodically check anchoring points, hinges and lock; tighten any loose fixings and ensure the door closes without rubbing.
- Lightly lubricate hinges and locking bolts if permitted by the manufacturer.
- Replace batteries as a precaution and remove depleted ones to prevent leaks.
- If the location is humid, use desiccants and renew them regularly.
- Protect sensitive documents and devices in protective sleeves or bags if your model does not specify fire or water resistance.
- Keep copies of recovery codes or serial numbers in a secure place outside the safe.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use the safe as a step, seat or support; do not allow children to climb inside or play with the door.
- Do not store fuels, solvents, pressurised aerosols or other hazardous products inside.
- Do not force the lock or modify the mechanism or anchoring points.
- Do not install outdoors or in areas with constant condensation unless the model is designed for it.
- Do not move it when loaded or without appropriate assistance; empty it before moving to prevent injury and damage.
- Do not share codes or keys via insecure channels; change them if you suspect they have been disclosed.
- Avoid installing on weak partition walls or on unstable furniture; verify that the chosen location is suitable for drilling and fixings.
