Wash-basin Drain Valves
Safety warnings and precautions
Key risks
- Water leaks from poorly seated seals, size incompatibilities or incorrect tightening, creating a risk of damp, mould and slips.
- Damage to the sanitaryware or threads from over-tightening or using unsuitable tools.
- Cuts or pinching injuries when handling metal parts, edges and opening/closing mechanisms.
- Contact with wastewater, bacteria and unpleasant odours during disassembly or cleaning.
- Blockages from hair, limescale or debris that can cause slow drainage or overflows.
- Skin or eye irritation from splashes of harsh cleaners or chemical drain unblockers.
Safe use
- Check the compatibility of the waste with your basin or bidet (diameter, with/without overflow, trap type and available space).
- Prepare the area: turn off the taps, avoid opening them during the work, empty the trap, place a bucket and protect surfaces and floors.
- Wear gloves and, if cleaning or unblocking, eye protection to prevent splashes.
- Fit the seals in the specified order and avoid sealants or tapes that are not recommended; do not replace the seals with improvised products.
- Hand-tighten first, then tighten with a tool without forcing, to avoid deforming the seals or cracking the ceramic.
- After installation, fill the basin or bidet and check all joints and the operation of the plug (click-clack, chain or lift rod) to detect leaks.
- To prevent blockages, use hair-catcher strainers where appropriate and do not pour oils, paints, cement, wet wipes or solid waste down the drain.
- Use mild cleaners and rinse thoroughly after using descalers or drain unblockers to protect chrome finishes and seals.
Storage and maintenance
- Store spares, plugs and seals in a dry place, in their original bag and away from sun and heat to prevent the rubber from drying out or deforming.
- Keep metal parts clean and dry; avoid impacts or loads that could deform valves and threads.
- Periodically check the tightness of the nuts and the condition of the seals; replace any that are hardened, cracked or flattened.
- Regularly clean the plug and the waste outlet to remove hair, limescale and dirt; carefully remove any detachable elements (e.g., click-clack) for cleaning.
- If bad odours appear, check that the trap holds water and that there are no loose joints or leaks.
- After using chemical unblockers, flush with plenty of water and check that the seals have not been damaged.
Restrictions of use
- Designed for standard drainage in basins and bidets; do not use in pressurised circuits or for very high temperature liquids on a continuous basis.
- Do not modify, drill or force adaptation to sizes or threads other than those intended.
- Do not use the waste as a support, anchoring point or to hang objects.
- Avoid pouring boiling water, solvents, strong acids or concentrated caustic soda that could damage finishes and seals.
- Keep children and pets away from the installation area and loose parts; handling must be carried out by adults.
- Respect compatibility with basins or bidets with/without overflow according to the sanitaryware design to maintain proper drainage.
