Usage Warnings

Light Bulbs

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Electric shock when installing or changing the bulb with the power on.
  • Burns from high temperatures during use or just after switching off (especially with some models).
  • Cuts and injuries from broken glass or diffuser.
  • Overheating and risk of fire if covered, used in light fittings without adequate ventilation or at a non-recommended wattage.
  • Glare and eye strain from direct exposure to very intense light or perceptible flicker in sensitive individuals.
  • The bulb may fall if not firmly screwed in or seated.
  • Damage to the light fitting or installation when using incompatible cap types or formats.
  • With compact fluorescent bulbs, possible exposure to small amounts of mercury if broken.

Safe use

  • Always switch off the power supply before installing, replacing or handling the bulb.
  • Allow it to cool completely before touching, and hold it by the base when removing or fitting.
  • Use only in compatible lamp holders and comply with the maximum wattage and conditions specified by the light fitting.
  • Screw in or fit without forcing; if you notice resistance or looseness, check the bulb and cap type.
  • Keep clear of curtains, paper, plastics or other combustible materials and do not cover the bulb with fabrics or objects.
  • Avoid contact with water or moisture unless the model is rated for it; outdoors, use light fittings suitable for the environment.
  • Do not stare at direct light at close range or aim it at the eyes.
  • Use dimmers, sensors or timers only if the bulb is compatible.
  • If you notice persistent flicker, unusual odour or excessive heat, switch off and replace the bulb or have the installation checked.
  • If a compact fluorescent breaks, ventilate the room, collect the debris carefully without using a vacuum cleaner, and dispose of the waste through the appropriate collection scheme.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store bulbs in their original packaging, in a dry, clean place, protected from impacts.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets to prevent drops or breakage.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, excessive dust or extreme temperatures.
  • Dust with the bulb cool and switched off, using a dry cloth; do not apply liquids or aerosols directly.
  • Periodically check the lamp holder and shade for signs of heat, discolouration or damage.
  • Replace the bulb if you notice cracks, a deformed base, unusual buzzing or irregular operation.
  • Take used bulbs to authorised collection points; do not dispose of them with household waste, especially if they contain electronic components or mercury.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use the bulb in environments with vapours, flammable dust or risk of explosion.
  • Do not exceed the wattage specified by the light fitting or use bulbs not intended for fully enclosed light fittings.
  • Do not modify, open, drill or paint bulbs.
  • Do not use in rain, bathrooms or outdoors unless the product specifies that it is suitable for that location.
  • Avoid using as direct light at close range where it may cause glare; prioritise diffusers if necessary.
  • In children’s rooms or for vulnerable people, position light fittings out of reach and avoid models that reach high temperatures.
  • Do not leave bulbs hanging loosely or poorly secured; check they are firmly secured after installation.
  • People with light sensitivity or migraines should avoid direct exposure to very bright sources or those with perceptible flicker.
