Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Electric shock from hazardous voltages at terminals and from energy stored in capacitors even after disconnection.
  • Overheating and fire due to inadequate ventilation, short circuits or an oversized load.
  • Unexpected motor start-up from remote commands, auto-restart after a power outage or control failures.
  • Hydraulic damage (overpressure, water hammer, cavitation or dry-running) due to improper configuration or sensor faults.
  • Electromagnetic interference affecting other equipment due to improper wiring or filtering.
  • Ingress of water or moisture causing corrosion, electrical faults or nuisance tripping.
  • Excessive vibration and noise that may loosen fixings or damage the installation.
  • Burns from contact with heat sinks or components that reach high temperature in operation.

Safe use

  • Carry out installation and wiring only by qualified personnel, following the manufacturer’s manual and schematics.
  • Disconnect, lock out the supply and wait for capacitors to discharge before opening the casing; observe the voltage indicators.
  • Ensure effective earthing and use appropriate wiring; separate power and signal, and use screened cables where recommended.
  • Configure start/stop ramps and pressure limits appropriate to the system; enable overload and dry-running protections if available.
  • Install the drive on a firm surface, well ventilated and protected from splashes; leave clearance for heat dissipation.
  • Protect the equipment with enclosures or cabinets with a protection rating suitable for the pump room environment.
  • Use upstream electrical protection devices (miniature circuit breakers, fuses and motor protection) sized for the installation.
  • Provide signage warning of possible automatic start-up; disable auto-restart if there is a risk to people or equipment.
  • During commissioning, test at low speed, verify the direction of rotation and monitor pressure/flow to avoid overpressure.
  • Integrate appropriate hydraulic protection elements (valves, accumulators, non-return valves) to dampen water hammer and stabilise the system.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store in a dry, clean place, free of vibration and protected from dust, moisture and extreme temperatures; keep the packaging until installation.
  • Avoid corrosive atmospheres or salt mists that could damage components and connections.
  • Periodically check terminal tightness, cable condition and the absence of abnormal heat, discolouration or burning odours.
  • Clean grilles, fins and fans to maintain airflow; do not use aggressive cleaners or high-pressure water.
  • Check that there is no moisture inside the enclosure and that the cable glands and seals remain watertight.
  • Periodically verify the operation of sensors and control signals (pressure, level, flow) and recalibrate if necessary.
  • Keep a backup of the configuration and record parameter changes when the pump or hydraulic system is modified.
  • Restore power only with covers and guards closed and after confirming that no one is working on the installation.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the drive outside the specified ranges for mains voltage, and for the motor and pump power and current.
  • Do not use the drive as the sole isolating device or as an emergency stop; install an accessible external isolator.
  • Do not install or handle with the equipment energised, with wet hands or on damp floors.
  • Do not obstruct ventilation or install in enclosed spaces without adequate air renewal.
  • Do not expose to water jets, heavy condensation or immersion unless the assembly is specifically designed for it.
  • Do not use the equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres or with flammable dust/gases.
  • Do not modify or bypass protections or change critical parameters without understanding their effect on the pump and pipework.
  • Keep access restricted to trained personnel and out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.
  • Do not operate with damaged cables, loose connectors or signs of overheating; stop the system if abnormal noise or vibration occurs.
