Usage Warnings

File Cabinets

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Tipping of the unit caused by opening several drawers at once, placing weight on the top, or overloading the upper levels.
  • Finger trapping in runners, hinges, or between the drawer front and the frame.
  • Cuts or snags from edges, protruding screws, or damaged surfaces.
  • Drawers or heavy objects falling if they are incorrectly inserted or exceed the recommended load.
  • Unexpected movement in models with castors if the brakes are not engaged.
  • Risk to children: climbing, tipping, or accidental locking of drawers with a key.

Safe use

  • Place the filing cabinet on a level, stable surface; adjust the levelling according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Anchor to the wall or floor when it is tall or narrow, or in areas with children or heavy foot traffic, provided the design allows it and the manufacturer recommends it.
  • Open only one drawer at a time and do not force it if it jams; check that it is fully closed after use.
  • Distribute the load: store the heaviest items in the lower drawers and observe the load limits specified by the manufacturer.
  • Always use the handles to open and close; keep hands away from the runners and pinch points.
  • In units with castors, engage the brakes during use and when stationary.
  • To move the unit, empty the drawers and carry it between two people; do not lift it by the drawers or drag it.
  • Avoid placing heavy or unstable equipment on top that could shift the centre of gravity.
  • Handle keys with care: do not leave them in the lock and keep a spare in a safe place out of the reach of children.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive products or solvents that could damage the finish or mechanisms.
  • Keep the unit in dry, ventilated environments, away from excessive moisture and direct sources of heat.
  • Periodically check screws, handles, runners and castors; tighten or replace loose or damaged parts. Lubricate the runners only if the manufacturer specifies.
  • Check that the stops and latches work and that the drawers are inserted correctly before loading them.
  • Do not stack filing cabinets unless the design allows for it; in that case, follow the instructions and use the intended fixing systems.
  • If you detect instability, deformations, sharp edges or rust, stop using it until the issue is corrected or the affected parts are replaced.

Usage restrictions

  • For indoor use in home or office; not suitable for outdoor use or very humid areas unless specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not allow children to play with, climb on, or hang from the drawers; use locks or locking devices where appropriate and supervise when children are present.
  • Do not open or keep several drawers open simultaneously.
  • Do not exceed the load per drawer or shelf specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not store hazardous substances, flammable materials or foodstuffs if the unit is not designed for it.
  • Do not use the filing cabinet if stops, screws or runners are missing, or if it shows structural damage.
  • Do not obstruct exits or corridors; leave enough space to open the drawers without risk of impact.
  • Do not modify the unit or drill areas not intended by the manufacturer, as this may compromise its stability.
