Cooker Hoods
Warnings and safety precautions
Key risks
- Fire due to grease build-up in filters, motor or ducting.
- Flame spread when flambéing or cooking with an open flame directly under the cooker hood.
- Electric shock if the appliance is handled while wet or cleaned with steam/high-pressure water.
- Burns from contact with lamps, hot surfaces or cooking vapours.
- Unit or panels falling if not properly secured or if mishandled.
- Cuts from sharp metal edges when installing or removing filters and housings.
- Backflow of fumes or combustion gases in kitchens with gas appliances if there is insufficient air intake.
- Loss of performance and poor air quality due to obstructions in filters or outlets.
Safe use
- Switch on the cooker hood a few minutes before cooking and keep it running briefly after finishing to extract vapours.
- Observe the manufacturer's recommended safety distance between the cooker hood and the hob.
- Do not leave deep-frying unattended and avoid flambéing or maintaining high flames under the cooker hood.
- Do not block air inlets or outlets; use an appropriate speed setting according to the intensity of cooking.
- Keep lids on pots and pans where possible to reduce smoke and grease.
- Ensure sufficient ventilation in the kitchen, especially if natural-draught gas appliances are operating at the same time (keep ventilation grilles clear).
- Switch off and unplug the appliance before removing filters, cleaning the interior or replacing lamps; allow surfaces to cool.
- Use only compatible lamps specified by the manufacturer and fit them correctly.
- If you detect a burning smell, sparks, or abnormal noises or vibrations, switch off the unit and do not use it until it has been checked.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean the exterior with a soft cloth and neutral detergent; dry thoroughly to prevent moisture in electrical components.
- Wash the metal grease filters regularly and reinstall them completely dry; replace the activated carbon filters when saturated according to usage or the manufacturer's guidance.
- Do not use steam cleaners, high-pressure water jets, abrasive products or flammable solvents.
- Periodically check fixings, supports, visible wiring and the plug; do not use the appliance if you observe any damage.
- Ensure that the exhaust ducting (if present) is clean and free of constrictions; do not share them with combustion gas flues.
- Remove accumulated grease from accessible interior areas following the manufacturer's instructions to avoid fire risk.
- If it is not going to be used for a prolonged period, clean it and, if possible, disconnect it from the mains to avoid consumption and odours.
Usage restrictions
- For domestic indoor use; not suitable for outdoors or for areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Do not use the cooker hood in the presence of flammable vapours (solvents, aerosols, atomised alcohol) nor to extract combustion fumes.
- Do not operate the cooker hood without filters fitted or with wet filters; do not hang cloths or rest objects on the appliance.
- Do not insert objects into the intake area nor modify the unit, wiring, lighting or ducting.
- Keep children and pets away during operation and cleaning; prevent them from tampering with the controls.
- Persons with reduced physical, sensory or cognitive capabilities should use it under supervision.
- Installation, wall/ceiling fixing and electrical or ducting connection must be carried out by qualified personnel where applicable.
