Usage Warnings

Harnesses and Fall Arrest Systems

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls due to inadequate anchorages, incorrect connections or insufficient clearance.
  • Impacts against structures due to the pendulum effect or oscillations during arrest.
  • Injuries from sudden arrest and body compression (harness trauma).
  • Prolonged suspension after a fall with health risks if a rapid rescue is not carried out.
  • System failure due to wear, cuts, damaged stitching, corrosion or deformation in connectors.
  • Damage to webbing and ropes from sharp edges, corners, abrasive or hot surfaces.
  • Accidental opening or disconnection of non-locking karabiners and connectors.
  • Incompatibility between components (harness, lanyards, energy absorbers, anchors, retractable lifelines) that prevents correct operation.
  • Loss of stability due to wind, rain, ice or slippery surfaces.
  • Electrical hazard when working near live conductors.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for harness adjustment, attachment points and use of each component.
  • Before each use, inspect the harness, lanyards, energy absorbers, connectors and anchorage: look for cuts, loose threads, abrasion, deformation, rust, cracks and illegible labels.
  • Adjust the harness to the body: webbing flat and untwisted, buckles closed and locked, and no excessive slack.
  • Choose a suitable structural anchor point, preferably above the user and avoiding sharp edges.
  • Check the necessary free clearance beneath the feet and around you to avoid impacts during arrest, and reduce the pendulum effect by keeping the line as vertical as possible.
  • Use locking connectors and verify their closure manually and visually; do not connect to non-structural elements or to tool loops.
  • Use lanyards and energy absorbers appropriate to the task; do not tie knots or extend with ropes or webbing not intended for this purpose.
  • Keep lines and lanyards away from edges, moving parts, hot surfaces and chemicals; if this is not possible, use suitable protection.
  • Work with an operational rescue plan and maintain communication with the team for rapid assistance after a fall.
  • Stop work if weather conditions, fatigue or visibility compromise safety.
  • Immediately remove from service any equipment that has arrested a fall or suffered an abnormal load.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean textile components with lukewarm water and neutral soap; do not use solvents, bleach or harsh chemicals. Rinse and air-dry in the shade.
  • Ensure complete drying before storage. Do not use direct heat sources.
  • Store the equipment in a cool, dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, dust, oils and chemical agents.
  • Avoid crushing, permanent bends and contact with sharp edges during transport and storage; use protective sleeves or bags where possible.
  • Keep connectors and devices clean; check that closing and locking function correctly. Do not lubricate unless specified by the manufacturer.
  • Record dates of purchase, use and inspections, and carry out periodic inspections as indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Remove from service any equipment with visible damage, missing parts or an unknown history.

Use restrictions

  • Product intended for fall-arrest in work at height; do not use for sport climbing, caving, play or recreational suspension.
  • Do not use for hoisting, dragging or lashing loads, nor for lifting or suspending people except with systems specifically designed for that purpose.
  • Do not modify, drill, sew or tie knots in harnesses, lanyards or ropes; do not extend with accessories not specifically intended.
  • Do not mix components that are not designed to work together; observe the load limits and compatibilities specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use if the total weight of the user and their equipment exceeds the limits recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use near flames, hot surfaces, welding sparks or chemicals that may damage the components, unless using equipment designed for such conditions.
  • Do not work at height under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that reduces alertness.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and do not allow use without appropriate training and supervision.
  • Do not approach live power lines; maintain appropriate safety distances.
